The Lucania Film Festival was born in the last century, in September 1999 during a rainy morning. The advertisement was drown up in an abandoned place (the ex factory of Amaro Lucano), in Pisticci. The déput name was MAD/E SUD, which is “to make”/ “madness” in the south.

Why was it created?
Cinema is a social, artistic and economical reality and Basilicata couldn’t be kept out of this reality. It was an excellent stage, territory, for the Film Makers. It should give professional answers to young students (the creators of the project) who were going to emigrate towards other regions.

Internet was still very young in that time. Not all the people had an email or an internet site, and so the communication and the research for the short films was made door-to-door, by knocking to all film makers’ doors, the ones from Lucania but also from Campania, Puglia and Calabria. Another way was getting to Naples central station handling leaflets to people from all over the world. That’s why Spanish, French and German short films were the candidates to the first edition. And by now, after seven long and hard years, the LFF deserves a wonderful artistic and social collocation in the scenery of the independent festivals of the world. ….ah…: the places? The halls? The chairs? There are not so many chances! The little houses (30 mq) of the old women in the white district of Pisticci, having a seat randomly, or on the suggestive terrace of Loggia sterbini and the mythical via Sanfelice, which has given hospitality to even 50.000 people. Sorry, you were there. Weren’t you?

Powered by Allelammie
Allelammie Cultural Association, created in 1997, has become by now a landmark in the vast panorama of the Italian and international associationism. At the beginning it dealt with fighting the social degradation and the environmental damage by holding small entertaining activities and awareness campaigns about ecological subjects. From then on a gradual but constant growth has started and it made Allelammie one of the most active associations of the south of Italy. It has developed from organising small events to handling more ambitious projects: it hasn't taken long to see the results.

Culture has become an occasion for planning the future of our world; created enterprises and job opportunities; increased the value of the huge inexpressed potentials of the territory and raised the awareness of the material and inmaterial resources as regards to the productivity, those resources connected to the financial, political and administrative means used today; are the “secret” of an experience which has the taste of success but is still to be. The formation of resources, professional figures, personalities in the field of the music, the cinema, the new knowledges and the multimedia, represents the main goal that Allelammie wants to pursue in the future. The journey continues, or better still, it has just started.

Come in, there's space for everybody.
