THE GREAT FUNERALS OF THE MEDITERRANEAN
A narrative-musical journey through the Sassi of Matera dedicated to the stories of Hassan Al-Wazzan known as Leo Africanus, Sayed Darwish, and Samia Yusuf Omar. A journey through music and memory featuring performances by Nancy Mounir (Egypt), on theremin and Egyptian flutes; Rocco Mentissi (Italy) on accordion and electronics; Reda Zine (Morocco), on guembri; Nadia Kibout (France-Algeria), narrator.
A collective ritual dedicated to the identities and voices of the Mediterranean, where sound traditions and contemporary experimentation weave together into an immersive experience.
Project created with the support of the Anna Lindh Foundation in collaboration with the Fondazione Matera Basilicata 2026 as part of Matera Mediterranean Capital of Dialogue and Culture, under the patronage of the City of Matera and the Archaeological Historical Natural Park of the Rock Churches of the Matera Area.

An international gathering connecting cinema, community, and cultures under the banner of the San Rocco – Patron Saint of Cinema network, dedicated to dialogue between territories and world film industries.
