Motivazioni / Motivation: Una lezione di cinema senza dialoghi che, in modo potente ed evocativo, ci ha trascinati nel dolore di un uomo per la distruzione ambientale. Recitazione e fotografia eccezionali.

A lesson in cinema without dialogue powerfully and evocatively drew us into one man’s pain of environmental destruction. Exceptional acting and cinematography.

Motivazioni / Motivation: Una storia affascinante che nasconde un importante messaggio politico sulla divisione tra piani alti e piani bassi e sugli immigrati clandestini accampati nello scantinato – l’umanità esiste ancora e non tutti sono indifferenti al loro benessere.

A charming story which hides an important political message of the upstairs downstairs and the illegal immigrants camping out in the basement – humanity still exsists and everyone is not impervious to their wellbeing.

→ Best Film: Imade by Ignacio Acconcia González

Motivazioni / Motivation: Straordinario cortometraggio documentario, sia per la maestria tecnica sia per la scelta del protagonista – una persona sordomuta – e per il pericoloso viaggio intrapreso dagli immigrati clandestini. Profondamente toccante e potente.

Outstanding short documentary in its craft as well as in its choice of protagonist – a deaf mute individual – and the perilous journey illegal immigrants undertake. Deeply moving and powerful.

→ Award (ex aequo): Ategheh by Masoud Dehnavi

Motivazioni / Motivation: Un documentario importante nel contesto dei bombardamenti israeliani su Gaza di oggi. Ritratto profondamente coraggioso e toccante di una madre che prepara il pane per i giovani della resistenza e piange per i martiri, mentre ride senza paura stendendo i panni sul balcone al suono delle bombe.

An important documentary in the context of Israel bombing of Gaza today. Profoundly courageous and moving portrayal of a mother who bakes bread for young men in resistance and weeps for those martyred while laughing unafraid as she hangs clothes in her balcony to the sound of bombs.

→ Best Film: Carmela by Vicente Mallols

Motivazioni / Motivation: Un approccio eccezionale nel raccontare la storia della resistenza contro il fascismo di Franco, con una protagonista femminile che ci ha coinvolti nella sua esperienza con grande emozione. Anche l’animazione era visivamente straordinaria.

An exceptionally approach to recounting the history of resistance against Franco’s fascism, with female protagonist who drew us into her experience with emotion. The animation was visually extraordinary too.

Motivazioni / Motivation: Concetto e visualizzazione brillanti, con un’animazione molto originale sul tema dell’“attesa interminabile di una chiamata istituzionale” mentre la vita prosegue nel paesaggio urbano.

Brilliant concept and visualization with very original animation on the subject of “waiting interminably on an institutional call” while life carriers on in the urban landscape.

→ Best Film: L’origine del mondo by Rossella Inglese

Motivazioni / Motivation: Diretto in modo brillante – dal punto di vista tecnico – nella fotografia, nel sound design, nella musica, nel montaggio, nella regia e nella recitazione. Un film stratificato e sfumato.

Brillanty directed-from technical angles-the cinematography, sound design, music, editing and direction and actors. A layered and nuanced film.

→ Best Film: Choreographies towards loss by Irene Margrethe Kaltenborn

Motivazioni / Motivation: Un documentario unico per l’uso creativo del linguaggio cinematografico, che ha trasmesso con forza la disumana decimazione di un’intera specie.

A unique documentary in the creative use of film from which brought home strongly the inhuman decimation of an entire species.

→ Best Film: Pinocchio Reborn by Matteo Cirillo

Motivazioni / Motivation: In un mondo in cui si è sempre più isolati, omologati, egoisti, abituati a mentire per il proprio tornaconto personale, chi crede ancora nei valori della verità, dell’onestà, della gentilezza nei confronti degli altri viene sopraffatto dalla cattiveria del mondo, considerato ingenuo, una persona che non sa farsi valere e di cui approfittarsi. Vengono premiate l’idea originale di raccontare tutto questo tramite la metafora archetipica del racconto di Pinocchio, la responsabilità civile del ruolo autoriale, e la conseguente aderenza sul piano dell’interpretazione degli attori e delle attrici coinvolti, in una coralità di reparti in perfetto equilibrio.

In a world where people are increasingly isolated, conformist, selfish, and accustomed to lying for their own personal gain, those who still believe in the values of truth, honesty, and kindness toward others are overwhelmed by the cruelty of the world, considered naïve, as someone who cannot stand up for themselves and is taken advantage of. What is rewarded here is the original idea of telling all this through the archetypal metaphor of the story of Pinocchio, the civic responsibility of the authorial role, and the consequent consistency in the interpretation by the actors and actresses involved, in a choral harmony of departments in perfect balance.

Motivazioni / Motivation: Nell’intimità di una casa pervasa da un silenzio carico di tensione, il tempo di una giovane madre allacciata al suo bambino viene scandito dal ritmo di un pendolo terreno. Ma in questa dimensione contingente il regista mette in scena il viaggio interiore nella propria memoria e nei propri abissi. All’improvviso una voce battente e non identificata fa vacillare ogni certezza. Al film MAMMA, regia di Matteo Martinez, viene assegnata la Menzione Speciale per l’intensità dell’interpretazione dell’attrice protagonista, per la sapiente direzione della fotografia e per lo sguardo sensibile sul drammatico tema dell’Alzheimer.

In the intimacy of a home pervaded by a silence heavy with tension, the time of a young mother bound to her child is marked by the rhythm of an earthly pendulum. But in this contingent dimension, the director stages an inner journey into his own memory and depths. Suddenly, a pounding, unidentified voice shakes every certainty. The film MAMMA, directed by Matteo Martinez, is awarded the Special Mention for the intensity of the lead actress’s performance, the skillful direction of photography, and the sensitive gaze on the dramatic theme of Alzheimer’s.

⁠Motivazioni / Motivation: È un corto di grande impatto emotivo che utilizza un potente simbolismo per raccontare la perdita dell’innocenza. La storia, che contrappone il gioco infantile a una cruda realtà, riesce a denunciare con efficacia le imposizioni sociali sulla figura femminile. L’agnellino nascosto nel finale diventa il fulcro del messaggio: la ribellione e la speranza che, nonostante tutto, non si arrendono. Per la sua intensità narrativa e il suo messaggio universale, la scelta è a favore di “SHAKNE NABAT”.

It is a short film with great emotional impact that uses powerful symbolism to tell the story of the loss of innocence. The story, contrasting childhood play with a harsh reality, effectively denounces social pressures on the female figure. The little lamb hidden at the end becomes the focal point of the message: rebellion and hope that, despite everything, do not give up. For its narrative intensity and universal message, the choice is in favor of “SHAKNE NABAT.”

→ Best Film: The Old Man and his Grandson by Mikhail Gorobchuk

⁠⁠Motivazioni / Motivation: Per la sua geniale rilettura di un classico e per la potenza del suo messaggio, per l’uso di colori cupi e il ritmo lento che contribuiscono a creare un tempo sospeso, per l’uso della “clay animation” che crea un’atmosfera unica che amplifica una profonda riflessione sociale. Il cortometraggio critica con delicatezza il rapporto tra generazioni e sottolinea l’importanza dell’esempio per educare al rispetto. Per la sua sensibilità e la magistrale esecuzione, la giuria  premia: “THE OLD MAN AND HIS GRANDSON”.

For its brilliant reinterpretation of a classic and the power of its message, for the use of dark colors and a slow pace that help create a suspended time, and for the use of clay animation that creates a unique atmosphere amplifying a deep social reflection. The short film gently critiques the relationship between generations and emphasizes the importance of leading by example to teach respect. For its sensitivity and masterful execution, the jury awards: “THE OLD MAN AND HIS GRANDSON.”

⁠Motivazioni / Motivation: Il documentario si distingue per l’abilità nel catturare la straordinaria personalità del pittore tunisino e la sua visione del mondo. Attraverso una fotografia bellissima e l’utilizzo di animazioni, i colori vivaci, trasmette la forza emotiva della sua arte. La narrazione è fluida e ben strutturata, offrendo una potente riflessione sull’importanza di prendersi cura della terra, vista come madre, e sull’ispirazione che si può trarre dalla natura. Il docu scelto è: “ON THIS PAINT”.

The documentary stands out for its skill in capturing the extraordinary personality of the Tunisian painter and his worldview. Through beautiful cinematography and the use of animations with vivid colors, it conveys the emotional strength of his art. The narration is fluid and well-structured, offering a powerful reflection on the importance of caring for the earth, seen as a mother, and the inspiration that can be drawn from nature. The chosen documentary is: “ON THIS PAINT.”

⁠Motivazioni / Motivation: Per la sua straordinaria originalità e il coraggio di affrontare temi complessi, il cortometraggio offre una brillante e amara riflessione su come la bontà sia percepita in un mondo cinico. L’utilizzo del colloquio con lo psicologo come espediente narrativo è geniale e innovativo. Per queste ragioni, la giuria sceglie “PINOCCHIO REBORN” come miglior corto della sezione Spazio Italia.

For its extraordinary originality and the courage to tackle complex themes, the short film offers a brilliant and bitter reflection on how goodness is perceived in a cynical world. The use of the conversation with a psychologist as a narrative device is ingenious and innovative. For these reasons, the jury selects “PINOCCHIO REBORN” as the best short film in the Spazio Italia section.
